About Steve
Steve Natoli trained in two Northeastern classrooms that shape many trial lawyers. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University and then took his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. Those years established the baseline for a career that has moved between prosecution and private practice.
He spent a stretch in public service early on. In 2014 he worked at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, listed as an AP on his resume. That time in a prosecutor’s office gave him first-hand experience with the mechanics of criminal charging, courtroom procedure and case preparation.
After the public post he opened his own practice. He is the founder and principal of The Law Offices of Stephen J. Natoli. The firm handles matters in New Jersey and in neighboring jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York and is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Parallel to private practice, Natoli has participated in federal defender programs. He holds membership in a Criminal Justice Act mentee program administered by the Federal Defender Services Program. That connection places him in a network that includes federal defense practitioners and public defenders who mentor newer lawyers on handling federal criminal cases.
Natoli maintains professional ties in the state bar community. He is a current member of the New Jersey Bar Association and keeps up with continuing legal education and local bar activities. Those associations are a recurring source of updates on procedure and appellate developments that affect trial work in New Jersey.
Across civil and criminal dockets he has developed a courtroom-oriented practice. His background on both sides of the aisle—prosecutor and private counsel—shapes how he approaches evidence and plea negotiations. He has handled matters in state court and has experience litigating issues that reach the federal appellate level in the Third Circuit.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in court and exacting in preparation. He tends to favor clear, practical filings and direct courtroom argument over ornate briefs. Clients have their cases prepared for trial while also being briefed on realistic settlement prospects.
Today he runs The Law Offices of Stephen J. Natoli and continues to represent clients in criminal matters at the state and federal levels. He currently practices criminal law in New Jersey and before the Third Circuit.
