About Alexander
Alexander Schachtel trained first as a scientist and then as a lawyer. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Neuroscience from Duke University and went on to receive a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2014. Those two strands of study — the empirical habits of mind and legal technique — recur in his work.
After law school he established a solo practice. In 2016 he opened the Law Office of Alexander Schachtel and has practiced under that name since. He is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey and carries out courtroom work, client counseling and transactional tasks from his offices in the region.
Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He applies analytical tools learned in his undergraduate training when assessing evidence and witness statements. On any file he tends to break complex problems into component parts. That discipline helps on tight deadlines and in hearings that require careful factual presentation.
His day-to-day work mixes litigation and office practice. He prepares pleadings and motions, appears in state courts, negotiates settlements and handles routine transactional matters. He also spends time advising individual clients on procedural options and next steps when disputes arise. The case load of a small office means he often handles multiple roles on a matter, from initial intake through court appearances.
Running a small firm has shaped other parts of his professional life. He manages case administration, client communication and aspects of business development. That hands-on management influences the way he staffs matters and sets priorities. It also affects how clients experience the office: they often deal directly with the attorney handling their file.
Outside the office his background in psychology and neuroscience remains an active reference point. He has written and spoken informally on how cognitive biases and memory issues can affect witness testimony and client interviews. Those observations inform how he prepares witnesses and structures interviews for clarity and accuracy.
He has maintained his practice in the same regional area since founding his firm. He accepts matters in both New York and New Jersey and continues to handle litigation, client counseling and transactional work at the Law Office of Alexander Schachtel.
He currently concentrates his practice at the Law Office of Alexander Schachtel, serving clients in New York and New Jersey.
