About Stephanie
Stephanie Maddox built a legal foundation at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice. She continued her studies at the University of Baltimore School of Law, completing a J.D. with a concentration in criminal law. Those academic years set the course for an early career centered on courtroom work and criminal matters.
After law school, Maddox accepted a clerkship with the Maryland Judiciary. She served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Karen C. Friedman in the Baltimore City Circuit Court in 2015. The clerkship exposed her to daily courtroom procedure, opinion drafting and the practical rhythms of state trial court practice. It also provided a direct view of how judges evaluate evidence, testimony and legal argument.
In 2016 she joined the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office. There she worked on prosecutions, handling the kinds of case preparation and trial responsibilities that follow from representing the state. That prosecutorial experience gave her regular courtroom time and a chance to work on case strategy, witness preparation and negotiation of resolutions.
Maddox moved into private practice in 2018 when she joined the Law Office of James E. Farmer, LLC. In that role she shifted from prosecuting cases to representing individual clients. The transition broadened her perspective on criminal practice. She has experience on both sides of the courtroom, which informs how she evaluates cases and advises clients.
Throughout her career she has remained connected to professional groups and maintains membership in relevant legal associations. She is admitted to practice in Maryland. Colleagues describe her approach as methodical and practical. She is comfortable in court and at counsel table, and she relies on the procedural knowledge gained during her clerkship and time in the State's Attorney's Office when preparing cases.
Her practice integrates courtroom experience and trial preparation. She regularly handles matters that arise in state court and works on case strategy, pretrial motions and negotiations. She currently represents clients in criminal matters at the Law Office of James E. Farmer, LLC.
