About Michael Joseph
Michael Joseph Schreyer is a Maryland attorney whose career spans three decades of courtroom practice and community involvement. He completed his undergraduate studies at Wheeling Jesuit University in 1985 and earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1988. Those years set the stage for a steady rise through local firms and civic boards.
He began his legal career in 1988 as an associate at Andrews, Schick, Bognar & Starkey, PA. Six years later he became a partner at the same firm. In 1998 he left to co-found Seidman & Schreyer, LLC, and in 2010 he joined Alpert Schreyer, LLC as a partner. Each move reflected a steady accumulation of trial work and leadership responsibilities in civil litigation.
Schreyer has maintained active bar and professional memberships in Maryland since the late 1980s. He joined the Maryland State Bar Association in 1989 and has taken on roles within its Negligence, Insurance & Workers’ Compensation Section Council, serving as secretary, vice-chair, chair and as a member of the Board of Governors. He has also been part of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association board since the early 1990s and sits on the national advisory board of the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America.
His public appointments include a gubernatorial appointment to the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission’s Advisory Committee on Budget. He has been a member of the Trial Courts Judicial Nominating Commission since 2004. Locally, Schreyer has been involved with the Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s County bar associations and served in officer roles for the Charles County Bar Association.
Outside the courtroom, Schreyer has held multiple nonprofit and civic posts. He helped found Pope John Paul II Academy and later served as its board president. He has been on the board of Civista Health, including a term as chair, and has participated on planning and campaign committees for the Archdiocese of Washington and Maryland.
His practice reflects the patterns of his associations and appointments. He handles litigation in personal injury and negligence cases, represents plaintiffs in trucking and commercial-vehicle matters, and works on workers’ compensation issues. He remains based in Maryland and continues to serve on local and state legal and civic boards while practicing at Alpert Schreyer, LLC, where his work centers on personal injury, trucking and workers’ compensation litigation.
