About Ryan
Ryan Posey earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2013 after completing a bachelor’s degree in political science at Towson University in 2009. He moved through his legal training during a period of steady change in Maryland’s courts. Classroom work and clinic experience at Baltimore laid the foundation for an early career in public defense and trial work.
He began his post-law school career as an assistant public defender with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in 2014. In that role he handled criminal cases for clients who could not afford private counsel. The work put him inside courtrooms across the state and required regular appearances at hearings, plea negotiations, and trials. That early period shaped his approach to case preparation and courtroom practice.
In 2017 he joined Andrews, Bongar, Gormley & Clagett, P.A. as a lawyer. At the firm he continued to work on matters arising from criminal charges and proceedings. His responsibilities included client interviews, drafting motions, and arguing before judges. The shift from the public defender’s office to private practice offered a different mix of clients and case dynamics, but the core work—representing people in court—remained the same.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and practical in his case handling. He has built experience in trial advocacy and plea work through steady practice rather than public-facing awards or headlines. Outside of court, he maintains ties to the Maryland legal community and stays current on case law and procedural changes that affect criminal practice. He currently represents clients in Maryland in criminal defense and related court proceedings.
