About Sheila
Sheila Mims earned her law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1998 after completing undergraduate studies in political science at Pacific Lutheran University in 1994. Those years set the stage for a career spent largely inside courtrooms. She moved from academic study into public defense and prosecution early in her career.
Her first post-law school position was as an assistant public defender in the 5th Circuit Public Defender’s Office in 1999. The role gave her steady trial experience and a familiarity with case preparation under pressure. She left public defense to open her own practice in 2003, operating as Sheila Mims, Lawyer at Law. That period as a solo practitioner exposed her to a wide range of client work and the demands of running a small legal practice.
Mims returned to government service in 2011 when she accepted a position as an assistant solicitor in the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Four years later she moved to the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office, again serving as an assistant solicitor. Those years as a prosecutor broadened her courtroom perspective. She handled case strategies from the state’s side and gained experience in jury trials and plea negotiations.
In 2019 she became a partner at Templeton Mims & Ward. The firm listing appears under that name and shows her role as partner beginning that year. Her career path—from defender to solo practitioner to prosecutor to partner—gives her a view of the criminal justice process on multiple levels. Colleagues and opposing counsel encounter an attorney accustomed to courtroom practice and the shifting dynamics of litigation.
Mims is licensed to practice in South Carolina and holds current professional memberships. Her background spans public defense, prosecution, and private practice. She regularly appears in trial courts and has managed both individual client matters and broader office caseloads. She practices at Templeton Mims & Ward in South Carolina, representing clients in criminal matters and trial work.
