About Shawn P.
Shawn P. Sweeney built his legal foundation through a steady course of study and hands-on courtroom work. He completed undergraduate studies at Marist College in 1998 and earned his J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law in 2001. Those years set the stage for a career that moved quickly from classrooms to courtrooms.
He began public service in the early 2000s. In 2002 he worked as a prosecutor in the Rockingham County office. The following year he served in the Hillsborough County prosecutor’s office. Those roles involved trial preparation, witness interviews and courtroom appearances. He handled the day-to-day tasks prosecutors confront when building cases and presenting them to judges and juries.
By 2007 he listed his professional title simply as lawyer under his own name. Transitioning from a county prosecutor to private practice shifted his responsibilities. He continued to draw on the trial experience he accumulated while handling cases for the state. The move also required adapting to client counseling, case strategy from the defense or civil perspective, and the administrative side of running a law practice.
Colleagues and clients have noted his straightforward approach to legal matters and his familiarity with state court procedures. He is licensed to practice in New Hampshire and has spent his career working within that jurisdiction. His background in county prosecutor’s offices gave him regular exposure to criminal dockets, evidentiary issues and the rhythm of court calendars in the region.
Outside the courtroom, he has managed the practical tasks of a small practice. That includes client intake, case management and coordinating with experts when needed. He has handled filings, negotiated resolutions and appeared in hearings. Those responsibilities reflect the breadth of work a solo or small-firm lawyer often undertakes.
Today he practices under his own name, Shawn Sweeney. His work draws on years of prosecutorial experience and ongoing practice in New Hampshire courts. He currently focuses his practice on matters informed by that experience.
