About Brian M.

Brian M. Quirk built a legal career that moves from courtroom clerkship to firm leadership. He studied at the University of New Hampshire, earning a B.A., and then took his law degree from New England Law | Boston. Those early years set the stage for a practice rooted in litigation and public service.

His first post-law school role was a judicial clerkship on the New Hampshire Superior Court in 1996. The experience offered a close view of trial procedure and judicial decision-making. Two years later he joined the New Hampshire Department of Justice as a Senior Assistant Lawyer General, a position he held starting in 1998. That work put him inside state government practice and civil litigation handled by the Attorney General’s office.

Quirk moved into private practice and into firm leadership in the mid-2000s. In 2004 he became a director at Preti Flaherty, LLP. At Preti Flaherty he handled litigation matters and helped oversee aspects of firm practice. In 2021 he took on a leadership role at Shaheen & Gordon, P.A., where he serves as a partner/shareholder. The shift back to a New Hampshire firm reflects a career split between public service and private litigation.

He is admitted to practice in New Hampshire and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Professional affiliations include the New Hampshire Bar Association, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the New Hampshire Bar Association Dispute Resolution Committee. He is also a member of the Litigation Counsel of America. Those memberships underline a continuing engagement with litigation, dispute resolution and bar work.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who knows courtroom rhythm and appellate procedure. He has combined trial experience, state government litigation and firm management into a practice that handles contested matters and appeals. His background gives him familiarity with both the mechanics of trial courts and the procedural demands of higher courts.

Quirk’s practice today centers on litigation and appellate work in New Hampshire and the First Circuit. He represents clients in civil disputes, participates in dispute-resolution proceedings, and concentrates his practice on litigation and appellate matters.
