About Shawn J
Shawn J Wanta earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and built a practice anchored in Minnesota courts. He trained in the classroom and then in litigation. Over time he moved into cases that cut across state and federal work.
Early in his career he helped found Baillon, Thome, Jozwiak & Wanta LLP and served as a partner there. The firm bore his name and reflected a lawyer who regularly took clients into contested proceedings. He spent that period developing trial skills and adapting to the give-and-take of courtroom practice.
His work spans matters commonly brought by workers and consumers. He represents employees in disputes over wages and workplace treatment and assists consumers with claims under state and federal statutes. He also appears in federal court, where he volunteers for and participates in projects that support litigants who lack counsel.
Wanta maintains several professional ties connected to those areas of practice. He is active in the Minnesota chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association and holds membership in the National Association of Consumer Advocates. He is also involved with the Federal Bar Association’s Minnesota Chapter and serves as a volunteer lawyer on the Chapter’s Pro Se Project, helping unrepresented parties navigate federal procedures.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer comfortable both at the negotiating table and in court. He has handled pleadings, discovery and motion practice, and has taken matters to trial when necessary. His experience as a founding partner gave him regular exposure to case management, client counseling and the practical demands of running litigation from intake through resolution.
He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and continues to accept cases that reflect his interests in employment and consumer law. His current practice concentrates on representing individual clients in state and federal forums and on providing volunteer assistance through the Federal Bar Association’s Pro Se Project.
