About Nicholas R.
Nicholas R. Medley took a conventional path into law. He enrolled at the University of Florida in 2008 and earned his Juris Doctor in 2011. The law school years shaped his early interest in public benefits and the legal issues that affect older adults.
After law school he returned to Florida’s legal community. He became involved in the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section in 2013 and joined two elder-law organizations a year later. Those early professional choices steered his career toward matters that affect aging, incapacity and long-term care planning.
Medley’s membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys dates from 2014 and remains current. He also maintains membership in the Florida Bar’s Elder Law Section. He has used those networks to stay current on changes in Medicaid rules, guardianship law and elder financial protections. The memberships are professional touchstones more than decorations. They signal the practical areas in which he regularly works and the peer groups he turns to for updates and guidance.
His practice is organized under the name Medley Law Office. The firm handles matters often encountered by older clients and their families: estate planning, probate, guardianship and public benefits planning. He often addresses the paperwork and court procedures that accompany applications for Medicaid and other long-term care funding, and he assists families sorting through available options after a health event. His approach is procedural and detail-oriented. He emphasizes clarity in documents and attention to filing deadlines.
Colleagues and clients describe him as methodical. He favors plain explanations over legal jargon. He does not court the courtroom spotlight. Most of his work is transactional or administrative, focused on preparing durable powers of attorney, advance directives and trust instruments. He also handles probate administrations when necessary.
Outside of casework he continues to participate in elder law forums and continuing education. That keeps him current on evolving statutes and agency practices in Florida. As of 2026 he maintains an active practice through Medley Law Office, concentrating on elder law, estate planning, probate and public benefits matters for Florida residents.
