About William W. January
William W. January VI built an academic path that blends literature and law. He earned a B.A. in English with a minor in history from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He then completed an M.A. in English at the University of Oklahoma in 2018. He returned to Alabama for legal study and received both a J.D. and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2021.
After finishing his graduate work, January entered legal practice in Alabama. He is licensed to practice in that state. His course of study — especially the LL.M. in Taxation — steered him toward matters that involve federal and state tax rules, but his training in English also shaped a particular attention to clear writing and careful analysis.
January’s background in literature and history informs how he approaches legal problems. The M.A. in English reinforced skills in research and drafting. The law degrees added rules and tools for advising clients and resolving disputes. He combines those skills when preparing tax filings, interpreting regulatory guidance, and explaining technical issues to nonlawyers.
In practice he has handled a range of tax-related matters for individual and business clients. His work has included tax planning, preparation and review of returns, and responding to inquiries from tax authorities. He has also assisted clients in understanding the tax consequences of business decisions and transactions. He approaches each matter with an emphasis on accuracy and clarity.
January maintains memberships in professional associations and participates in continuing education tied to tax law and practice. He completed concentrated coursework in taxation during the LL.M. program and has kept current on evolving guidance and rules through seminars and legal publications.
He practices in Alabama and concentrates his work on tax law and related legal issues.
