About JR
JR Emerson trained first as a business student at Indiana University Bloomington before turning to law at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He carries both business and legal training into his work, where practical concerns and procedural rules intersect. Those academic years led to courtroom practice across the state of Indiana.
After law school Emerson began practicing in state and federal courts. He is licensed in Indiana and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He joined Emerson Divorce and Accident Injury Lawyers, L.L.C., where he handles matters arising from both family law and personal injury contexts.
His caseload draws from two related but distinct areas. In family law he represents clients in divorce proceedings, addressing property division, parental responsibilities, support matters and related hearings. In accident and injury matters he pursues claims for people who have been hurt in collisions and other incidents. He prepares cases for settlement talks and for trial when a resolution cannot be reached. In federal matters he has practiced under the procedural rules that govern the Southern and Northern districts of Indiana.
Emerson has maintained memberships in several bar organizations. He is a current member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association. He also belongs to the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association. Those memberships signal ongoing engagement with the legal community and continuing legal education activities.
At Emerson Divorce and Accident Injury Lawyers, L.L.C., he works alongside colleagues who handle similar types of litigation and family law matters. The firm operates across multiple offices in Indiana. Emerson’s day-to-day work involves drafting pleadings, taking and defending depositions, arguing motions and representing clients at hearings. He balances case preparation for trial with efforts to resolve disputes through negotiation when appropriate.
Clients who come to him typically face transitions at home or pressures that follow an injury. He represents individuals through the lifecycle of a case, from initial intake and investigation through trial or settlement. He also files and responds to claims in the federal districts that cover Indiana when cases fall under federal jurisdiction. He currently represents clients in divorce and accident-injury matters at Emerson Divorce and Accident Injury Lawyers, L.L.C.
