About Katrina Joy
Katrina Joy Ornelas earned her Juris Doctor from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2023. She completed a three-year program that culminated in a J.D. the same year she stepped into the Indiana legal community. The degree laid a foundation in core areas of law and prepared her for the transition from classroom to practice.
After law school, Ornelas gained admission to practice in Indiana and began her legal career at Doehrman Buba Ring. She joined the firm at a time when many new attorneys are testing different paths. At Doehrman Buba Ring she moved quickly into client work and day-to-day practice responsibilities.
Her early practice has involved legal research, drafting pleadings and contracts, and participating in client meetings. She has handled tasks that require close attention to procedural detail as well as written advocacy. Those duties have given her experience in managing case files and coordinating with colleagues on matters that range in complexity.
Ornelas has maintained a professional association membership since 2023. That involvement has kept her connected to colleagues and to continuing legal education opportunities. It has also provided a forum for learning about evolving rules and practices in Indiana.
Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She breaks problems into discrete issues and works through them step by step. She writes clearly, which serves both clients and other attorneys when documents must be precise and persuasive.
Her work at the firm includes counseling clients on practical options and preparing materials for negotiations and hearings. She contributes to litigation preparation and to transactional matters when drafting and review are required. The range of tasks has helped her develop a steady procedural competence and familiarity with courtroom filings and deadlines.
Outside of daily casework, Ornelas continues to expand her professional skills through continuing education and participation in legal networks. That activity keeps her engaged with developments in state law and practice. She practices at Doehrman Buba Ring, where she handles client matters across Indiana.
