About James David
James David Smith earned his J.D. from Arizona Summit Law School in 2008 after completing a B.S. at the University of Phoenix in 2001. He moved into legal work soon after his bachelor's degree and returned to formal legal studies later in the decade. His educational path combined nontraditional and law school experiences that led to a courtroom practice in Arizona.
Smith's early work included a role listed as an ABA Certified LA at Greenberg Traurig in Phoenix in 2002. After law school he joined Tharpe & Howell in 2009, then spent time at The Law Offices Of David Michael Cantor in 2010. By 2012 he was working at Rosenstein Law Group. The sequence of positions shows steady engagement in litigation and defense work across different Phoenix-area firms.
He became a member of the Arizona State Bar in 2009 and maintains that membership. Nationally, he has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2010. Since 2012 he has also held memberships in the National College for DUI Defense and Arizona Lawyers for Criminal Justice. Those affiliations align with consistent practice in criminal defense, including DUI representation, trial work and related pretrial matters.
Colleagues and court records show Smith has handled typical criminal defense tasks: client interviews, arraignments, motion practice, plea negotiations and courtroom advocacy. He has worked on misdemeanor and felony cases, and on DUI cases in particular, reflecting his membership in the National College for DUI Defense. Over the years he has split time between private firms and boutique defense offices, gaining experience in both large-firm settings and smaller, client-facing practices.
Today Smith maintains offices associated with Rosenstein Law Group, PLLC in Scottsdale and Gilbert, and an office linked to AZ Defenders in Tempe. He continues to practice in Arizona, drawing on years of courtroom work and professional memberships. He currently represents clients in Arizona criminal matters, including DUI defense and other criminal proceedings.
