About Timothy

Timothy Sparling earned his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2010 and completed his law degree at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2013. He moved into public service early in his career and spent several years building courtroom experience in Maricopa County.

His first role in the county system was as a law clerk in 2016. The following year he joined the Maricopa County Office of the Public Defender as a staff attorney. Over time his responsibilities grew and, by 2020, he was serving as a major fraud lawyer for the office. Those years in the public defender's office gave him repeated trial exposure and frequent work on serious felony matters.

In 2021 Sparling shifted to private practice. He took a position at Rosenstein Law Group and has been listed with that firm since that year. His name also appears in association with AZ Defenders, indicating involvement in other defense-oriented practice settings.

Outside day-to-day work he has engaged in legal associations tied to criminal justice and professional development. Since 2017 he has served as a legislative advocate for Arizona Lawyers for Criminal Justice. He also participated in the State Bar of Arizona Leadership Institute during the 2020 62021 cycle. Those roles have put him at the intersection of practice and policy on criminal justice issues in Arizona.

Colleagues describe him as someone who cut his teeth on county-level criminal defense. The record shows a steady progression from clerkship to county defender to handling major fraud matters, then on to private defense work. His background gives him experience in trial preparation, motions practice and the tactical elements of felony defense.

Sparling practices in Arizona and has balanced public-sector work with private practice roles. He has handled cases that require coordination with investigators, prosecutors and experts. He also engages in legislative advocacy through his work with Arizona Lawyers for Criminal Justice, where he monitors and responds to proposed changes that affect criminal procedure and defendant rights.

He currently practices at Rosenstein Law Group and AZ Defenders, handling criminal defense matters.
