About J Ashwin
J Ashwin Madia grew up focused on study and service. He earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1999 and a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2002. Those credentials set the stage for a career that moves between public service and private practice.
Soon after law school, Madia served as a Judge Advocate in the Marine Corps in 2003. He spent that time handling military legal matters and advising commanders. The work demanded quick judgment and plainspoken advocacy. It also offered early courtroom and administrative experience that he would draw on later.
Madia joined Robins Kaplan LLP as an associate in 2006. At the Minneapolis-based firm he worked on litigation and client representation inside a large-practice environment. The position exposed him to complex case preparation and the pressures of high-stakes practice. Those years in a national firm sharpened his approach to case strategy and management.
In 2009 he took the step of founding Madia Law LLC. Creating his own firm allowed him to shape a practice around how he had learned to work: direct, organized, and attentive to legal detail. He has handled matters across state court and administrative forums. His path from military lawyer to firm founder reflects an interest in courtroom work and dispute resolution.
Colleagues describe Madia as methodical in his preparation and steady at trial. He pairs the procedural discipline of military practice with the litigation techniques developed at a large civil firm. He is licensed in Minnesota and maintains a local practice. His experience includes advising clients, drafting pleadings, and arguing before judges and tribunals.
Outside the office Madia stays engaged with the legal community. He holds professional memberships and attends continuing education to keep current on procedural developments and case law. He has remained in Minnesota since his return from active duty and large-firm practice.
He currently practices at Madia Law LLC in Minnesota, handling matters that draw on his background as a former Marine Corps Judge Advocate and litigation attorney.
