About Gary
Gary Christmas completed his undergraduate work in government at the University of South Carolina, finishing in 1994. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1997. Those years set the stage for a long career practicing in South Carolina courts and representing injured workers and other clients across the state.
He began his legal practice soon after law school. In 1997 he became managing partner at Howell and Christmas, LLC, a role that marked the start of his trial and advocacy work. Two decades later he took on the title of managing partner at Christmas Injury Lawyers in 2019. The shift did not change the practical work he does day to day: counseling clients, preparing claims, conducting hearings and appearing before judges and mediators in circuit and federal courts.
Professional admissions followed closely on his academic credentials. He joined the South Carolina Bar in 1997 and has been a member of the Charleston County Bar since that same year. He gained admission to the U.S. District Court for South Carolina in 1998 and added admission to the United States Court of Appeals in 2000. The South Carolina Supreme Court certified him as a circuit court mediator, a credential he uses when cases are steered toward settlement rather than trial.
His practice is rooted in workers’ compensation and related injury matters. He has been active in organizations tied to those fields, holding memberships and leadership roles in several groups that influence practice and policy. He serves on the State Legislative Committee of the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group and has been secretary of the South Carolina Injured Workers Advocates. He participates in the South Carolina Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Workers Compensation Education Association, and the South Carolina Bar Workers Compensation Section council. Those memberships keep him connected to other lawyers and to developments in state law.
Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who spends much of his time in hearings and case preparation. He has operated in both state and federal venues and handles procedural demands that come with those forums. Outside courtrooms he takes part in continuing education and professional groups that address legislative changes and mediation techniques. He maintains offices under the Christmas Injury Lawyers name and continues to practice in South Carolina.
He currently practices in South Carolina, representing injured workers and handling personal injury and workers’ compensation matters in state and federal courts.
