About Gary C
Gary C Johnson has spent decades in and around the halls of government and corporate legal departments. He built his career across public and private sectors, accumulating courtroom admissions that span trial, appellate and specialized federal forums.
Johnson earned his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in 1976 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in political science at the University of Kansas in 1974. Those formative years set a foundation in both legal doctrine and the broader political landscape that informs regulatory and federal practice.
He entered the private sector early in his career. By 1979 he was a lawyer at Phillips Petroleum Company, working inside a major energy company during a period of significant regulatory and market change. The corporate role exposed him to transactional issues, regulatory compliance and the kind of cross-disciplinary work that large companies demand.
In 1987 Johnson moved into a leadership role as a director at Coopers & Lybrand. That position placed him in a professional services environment during a time when accounting, tax and legal services were increasingly intertwined. Three years later he left that corporate and firm-side track to return to private practice in 1990. Since then he has maintained a practice oriented around matters that require admission to specialized federal courts and appellate tribunals.
His admissions include a number of federal and state jurisdictions: the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Claims Court, the U.S. Supreme Court, the 8th and 10th Circuits, and state bars in Colorado, Missouri and Kansas. He is also admitted to practice before the Veterans Administration. Those credentials reflect a practice capable of handling tax disputes, federal claims and appeals that travel beyond a single state’s courts.
Johnson is a current member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Arapahoe County Bar Association. He lives and works in Colorado and has spent the past decades balancing litigation, administrative proceedings and advisory work for businesses and individuals. He currently maintains a private practice in Colorado handling matters in tax, federal claims, appellate work and veterans benefits cases.
