About Carolyn Marie
Carolyn Marie Bone built a career that began in the classroom and moved quickly into the courtroom. She earned a B.A. in English and Psychology from Converse College in 2005 and completed her J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2008. Those years set the course for a practice centered on family and children’s law.
Her first legal position after law school was as an associate at Parise Law Office, PA in 2008. She later taught as an adjunct professor at Charleston Southern University in 2012. In 2014 she opened her own practice, Carolyn M. Bone, LLC, operating as a sole practitioner. That step gave her control over the types of matters she would take and the clients she would represent.
Bone holds certifications that align closely with family court work. She is a certified South Carolina Family Court mediator through the S.C. Board of Arbitrator & Mediator Certification. She is also qualified to serve as a guardian ad litem in private cases through the University of South Carolina Children’s Law Center. Those credentials complement her litigation work and her work in negotiated settlements.
Her involvement in bar organizations spans local and state groups. She has been a member of the Charleston County Bar Association since 2014. On the county level she took a sequence of leadership roles in the Dorchester County Bar, serving as CLE coordinator in 2015–2016, secretary in 2016–2017, and president in 2018–2019. At the state level she served as an elected member of the South Carolina Bar Family Law Council from 2018 to 2021. Earlier committee work included participation in the South Carolina Bar’s Education Law Committee and Children’s Law Committee between 2011 and 2015.
Those experiences reflect a practice grounded in both court advocacy and dispute resolution. Bone’s background in education and her time teaching add a classroom perspective to client counseling and case strategy. She has balanced courtroom appearances with mediation and guardian ad litem assignments throughout her career.
Carolyn M. Bone continues to operate Carolyn M. Bone, LLC as a sole practitioner. Her current practice focuses on family law, mediation, and related matters involving children.
