About Yaron
Yaron Helmer built his legal foundation in New Jersey and New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975 and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law–Newark in 1978. Those credentials led to an early career in public prosecution before he entered private practice.
He began his prosecutorial work in Camden County, serving as an Assistant Prosecutor. He later moved to Cumberland County, where he rose to the role of First Assistant Prosecutor. Those years in county prosecutor’s offices put him regularly in courtrooms handling everything from routine matters to serious felony cases. The experience also exposed him to trial preparation and appellate practice.
After his time as a prosecutor, he joined Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, P.A., as a partner. At the firm he shifted into defense work and civil litigation alongside continuing appellate work. His practice has included criminal defense, representation at trial, and appeals. He has handled cases in state courts and on appeal, drawing on years of courtroom experience on both sides of the aisle.
He is admitted to the New Jersey bar and to federal appellate practice in the Third Circuit. He also holds admission to the U.S. Supreme Court, an authorization that allows him to seek review of cases at the highest federal level. Those admissions reflect a practice that has ranged from local criminal matters to appellate filings.
His professional activity extends beyond casework. He serves as Chair of the Criminal Practice Section of the Cumberland County Bar Association and is president of the Assistant Prosecutors Association of New Jersey. He maintains memberships in multiple county bar associations, including Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Salem and Cumberland, and participates in statewide and national groups such as the New Jersey State Bar Association, Trial Lawyers of New Jersey, the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey, the Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Helmer’s firm maintains a network of offices across the state. Locations include Haddon Heights, Vineland, Bridgeton, Freehold, Hackensack, Somers Point, Turnersville, Willingboro and Woodstown, where colleagues handle a mix of criminal and civil matters. He continues to appear in county courthouses and appellate courts throughout the region.
He now concentrates his practice on criminal defense and appellate matters.
