About James M.

James M. Conley built his legal foundation in classrooms and courtrooms. He earned his undergraduate degree at LaSalle University and completed his law degree at Rutgers School of Law–Camden. Those years set the stage for a career that moved quickly from public service to private practice.

He began his professional life as an assistant prosecutor in the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. There he prosecuted cases at various stages and handled the day-to-day work of a county prosecutor’s staff. He also taught at the Camden County Police Academy, training officers on legal and procedural matters that intersect with criminal investigations. The combination of courtroom time and classroom instruction shaped how he approaches evidence, witnesses and trial preparation.

After his years in public service, Conley joined Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, PA as a partner. At the firm he took on defense work and other criminal matters, bringing prosecutorial perspective to the defense table. His partnership includes case management, client counseling and trial work. He practices in New Jersey and holds a certification as a Criminal Trial Lawyer from the Supreme Court of New Jersey, a credential that recognizes experience handling felony and serious misdemeanor trials.

Colleagues and clients see him as steady in court. He has handled contested hearings and jury trials, and his record reflects repeated courtroom experience rather than occasional appearances. He keeps on top of procedural developments and evidence law. Outside the courtroom, his time teaching police recruits gave him direct contact with law enforcement practices and training standards, an angle that informs cross-examination and factual investigation.

Conley maintains memberships in the Camden County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him involved in local and statewide legal conversations. He also works regularly from several firm offices across New Jersey, including locations in Bridgeton, Freehold, Hackensack, Somers Point, Turnersville, Vineland, Willingboro and Woodstown, among others.

He manages cases from intake through trial and appeal when necessary. His practice blends trial work, client advising and courtroom strategy. He practices criminal defense and related matters at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, PA.
