About Robert J.
Robert J. Luther built a legal foundation at Rutgers. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers University in 1978 and a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Camden in 1982. Those years set the stage for a career spent largely on the public side of criminal justice and in training the next generation of law enforcement officers.
Early in his career he joined prosecutorial ranks in Camden County. He rose to become Section Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, overseeing investigations and trials that involved complex evidence and charged defendants with serious offenses. He later moved to Cumberland County, where he served as First Assistant Prosecutor and Trial Chief. There he supervised felony litigation and managed teams of trial attorneys, guiding strategy and courtroom preparation.
Alongside courtroom duties, Luther took on instructional roles. He served as an instructor and legal advisor at both the Cumberland and Camden Police Academies. His classroom work covered legal principles officers must apply in the field and procedural safeguards necessary during arrests and searches. He also holds certification as a Criminal Trial Lawyer from the Supreme Court of New Jersey and is an accredited instructor through the Police Training Commission.
Luther’s career reflects long service to county-level prosecution, but he has also kept ties to the private bar. He is Of Counsel at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, PA. In that role he draws on his trial experience to advise on criminal matters and related litigation. He maintains memberships in the Camden County, Cumberland County and New Jersey State bar associations, which keep him connected to developments in state law and local practice.
He has worked across multiple New Jersey communities during his career. Offices associated with his practice include locations in Bridgeton, Freehold, Hackensack, Somers Point, Turnersville, Vineland, Willingboro and Woodstown. Those locations reflect both prosecutorial assignments and the regional reach of his current practice arrangements.
Colleagues describe him as experienced in trial procedure and criminal investigation practices rather than as a courtroom showman. He emphasizes preparation, evidence analysis and clear instruction for officers and attorneys alike. He continues to serve clients through his role at Helmer, Conley & Kasselman, PA and represents individuals and entities in criminal matters and related proceedings as part of his current practice focus.
