About William
William Turner trained in the study of government before turning to law. He earned a B.A. in Government from Georgetown University in 2005 and completed his legal education at American University Washington College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2011. Those academic years set the stage for a professional path centered on criminal defense in Virginia.
After law school, Turner entered the field of criminal defense. He built a practice that eventually led to a leadership role at Newton Turner, PLLC. In 2017 he became managing partner of the firm. That title reflects both casework and the administrative responsibilities of running a small firm in a competitive legal environment.
Turner’s courtroom work is rooted in representation of individuals charged in Virginia courts. He has handled matters that required advising clients, negotiating with prosecutors and appearing in court on their behalf. He represents clients across the procedural stages that criminal cases typically pass through, from initial hearings to later proceedings.
Outside of case files, Turner has been active in local bar activities. Since 2017 he has served as an elected member of the Arlington County Bar Association’s Judicial Selection Committee. That role places him among attorneys who review and discuss judicial candidates and related matters for the county bar. He remains listed as a member of the association as of the present.
As a managing partner, Turner balances client representation with the day-to-day demands of running a law office. He oversees case assignments, assists in trial preparations and handles client consultations. The firm bears his name and he is one of its lawyers who appears regularly in court on criminal matters.
Colleagues and court observers see him as a practitioner who focuses on the practical work of defense lawyering rather than on public promotion. He keeps his practice rooted in Virginia jurisdictions, where he conducts litigation and counsel sessions for clients facing criminal charges.
Today Turner maintains his practice at Newton Turner, PLLC in Virginia. He continues to handle criminal defense matters and to participate in the Arlington County Bar Association’s committee work on judicial selection.
