About William M.

William M. Fontenot earned his law degree from the University of Utah in 2007. He moved from the classroom into practice at a time when the legal market was undergoing change. That timing shaped how he approached client work and firm management in the years that followed. The University of Utah provided the formal training; the early professional years provided the trial run.

After graduation, Fontenot began his legal career as an associate at Christensen & Jensen, P.C. in 2008. In that role he handled client matters, conducted legal research, prepared filings and participated in case strategy discussions. The associate position offered a steady stream of courtroom and office experience and exposed him to the operational side of a mid-size law firm. Those responsibilities helped him learn how different parts of a practice fit together.

In 2011 he moved into a leadership role as managing lawyer at Fontenot Law, P.C. The shift gave him responsibility not only for client files but also for day-to-day firm operations. He balanced administrative duties with casework, supervising support staff and guiding file management systems. The managing lawyer title reflected a change in function as much as in status; he oversaw both the business and legal sides of practice.

Fontenot maintains professional memberships and remains engaged with peers in the Utah legal community. He has kept an active presence in local legal circles and continues to participate in association activities. That ongoing engagement has kept him current with procedural developments and shifting norms in state courts.

Over the course of his career he has practiced exclusively in Utah. He has worked in both the associate-track environment of a larger firm and the more hands-on setting of a smaller, managed practice. That mix of experience has informed how he organizes client matters and allocates resources to litigation and transactional work. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in handling legal tasks and steady under routine pressures.

As of 2026, he serves as the managing lawyer of Fontenot Law, P.C., practicing in Utah and handling matters in state courts. His current practice focuses on providing legal representation for clients through the firm’s work in Utah.
