About William Daniel

William Daniel Plaskett built a career at the intersection of accounting and tax law. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from Central Missouri State University in 1977 and completed his J.D. at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law in 1980, where he concentrated on tax law. Those dual credentials shaped the path he would follow.

Early in his career Plaskett drew on his accounting training as a Missouri Certified Public Accountant. That background informed his approach to tax disputes and planning. Over time he gained admissions to practice before the U.S. Tax Court and the Eighth Circuit, and he is licensed in Missouri. That mix of courtroom access and technical accounting knowledge has been a steady through-line in his work.

Plaskett’s practice has centered on tax controversy and litigation. He has represented individuals and businesses in disputes with tax authorities, preparing cases for hearing and appeal. He has handled procedural matters and written briefs for appellate review in the Eighth Circuit. His work requires translating complex financial records into legal arguments, and he has often served as the point person where law and accounting meet.

Colleagues and clients have noted his methodical approach to case preparation. He tends to break complex problems into discrete issues, then address each with document analysis and clear legal reasoning. That style suits cases that hinge on detailed transactional histories or nuanced interpretations of tax rules. He also advises on tax planning that aims to reduce exposure to future disputes.

Plaskett has remained engaged with professional circles that bridge accounting and law. He holds active CPA status in Missouri and maintains memberships in professional organizations that reflect his dual training. He has also continued his practice in the regional courts and tribunals where tax controversies are resolved.

Today he practices through PlaskettLaw, LLC. He handles tax controversy, tax litigation, and tax planning for clients in Missouri and before federal tax and appellate forums.
