About William

William Bailey built his legal foundation at the University of North Dakota. He earned a J.D. in 2016 after completing undergraduate studies in both psychology (B.S., 2012) and criminal justice studies (B.S., 2013). Those degrees shaped an early interest in the intersection of behavior and the criminal justice system.

He entered legal practice through a series of clerkships and early associate positions that exposed him to courtroom work and client advocacy. In 2014 he worked as a law clerk at Reichert Armstrong. That role led to a law clerk and then lawyer position at Swanson Law Office in 2016. By 2017 he was working at Olson Defense, handling criminal matters and related proceedings. In 2020 he joined BK Law Group, where his caseload broadened to include matters in both state and federal forums.

In 2023 Bailey became part of Gerald Miller, P.A., where he is listed as a criminal defense lawyer. His track record shows a steady progression from clerkships to courtroom practice. He has experience in settings that include formal hearings before immigration courts and litigation in state and federal trial courts.

Bailey is admitted to practice in North Dakota and Minnesota and is also authorized to appear in the Federal District of North Dakota. He is admitted to practice before immigration courts, which adds an administrative-law dimension to his practice. That mix of admissions reflects work that spans local criminal matters, federal proceedings and immigration hearings.

Colleagues describe his approach as practical and direct. He tends to favor clear explanations over legalese when talking to clients. In court he advocates using evidence and procedure strategically, rather than relying on rhetoric.

Cases handled over the years cover a range of criminal offenses and immigration issues. Early clerkships provided experience in research and drafting, and later roles required courtroom appearances, plea negotiations and hearings before administrative tribunals. He has moved between small firm practice and specialized criminal defense shops, which has given him familiarity with different office cultures and caseload demands.

Outside of court, Bailey’s time in law school and his dual undergraduate degrees continue to inform how he evaluates client stories and case dynamics. He practices principally out of Gerald Miller, P.A. and maintains an active docket in North Dakota and neighboring Minnesota. He focuses his current practice on criminal defense and immigration matters in state, federal, and immigration courts.
