About Derek
Derek Archambault earned a B.A. in political science and communication studies from the University of Saint Thomas in 2002, then went on to law school at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2009. While in law school he served as a student certified lawyer in 2007 at the Anoka County Lawyer's Office, gaining early courtroom exposure and client contact.
After graduating, Archambault clerked for the Minnesota Judicial Branch in 2009. The clerkship placed him inside the courtroom process and gave him daily contact with judges, motions and written opinions. He moved into private practice the following year and joined Hawkins and Baumgartner, PA as an associate in 2010.
Over the next decade he remained in practice at law firms where he handled an array of matters that required litigation and courtroom work. In 2018 he became part of Eckberg Lammers, continuing his role as a trial lawyer and taking on cases that required pretrial preparation, motions practice and appearances before judges and juries.
In 2023 Archambault began practicing at Archambault Criminal Defense. The change marked a turn toward a narrower practice setting and more direct client responsibility. His work involves representing individuals accused of criminal offenses in Minnesota courts. He appears in arraignments, hearings and trials, and he advises clients on procedural options and potential outcomes.
Archambault’s background includes hands-on experience at multiple stages of the criminal justice process. He has worked inside a county lawyer’s office, inside the judicial system as a clerk and in private firms handling contested matters. Those roles have shaped how he manages case files, coordinates evidence, and prepares witnesses for testimony. He also handles the drafting of motions and written pleadings that litigators use in court.
He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and maintains a practice based in the state. Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves cases through the court system and handles the practical steps needed to get to resolution. He currently represents clients in criminal cases at Archambault Criminal Defense.
