About Vincent J
Vincent J Mata brings an unusual academic path to his legal work. He studied classical humanities at the University of Notre Dame and earned a B.Phil. in Philosophy and Classical Humanities from Regina Apostolorum Pontifical Athenaeum. He continued graduate work in philosophy at The Catholic University of America, taking his studies deeper into ethical and theoretical questions. He finished his legal training at George Mason University School of Law, graduating with a J.D.
After law school he became licensed to practice in both Virginia and West Virginia. His practice developed around issues that often arise for older clients and their families. He practices through Mata & Hill PLC, which maintains offices in Strasburg and Winchester. Those offices serve a largely regional clientele, handling matters that intersect with health, family and public benefits law.
Mata’s work centers on elder law and estate planning. He handles traditional estate planning tasks such as wills and trusts and the array of practical problems that follow as people age. His files commonly include Medicaid planning, guardianship petitions and probate administration. He takes a methodical approach to these cases, breaking complex problems into manageable steps and explaining options plainly to clients and family members.
He has been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2016 and of the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2016. Those memberships place him in professional networks that emphasize continuing education and peer consultation on difficult elder law questions. He has kept up active participation in those groups, attending programs and exchanging practice strategies with other attorneys in the field.
In office he works with colleagues at Mata & Hill PLC across the firm’s locations. He is known for giving careful attention to the practical effects of legal documents on clients’ daily lives, and for preparing plans that anticipate changes in health and finances. He currently concentrates his practice on elder law and estate planning.
