About Andrew P.

Andrew P. Hill built a career that moves steadily from classroom to courtroom. He followed a path through liberal arts study into law school and then into private practice. The early choices in his education shaped how he approaches client matters later on. He earned a B.A. in history and music from Northwestern University in 2006, and completed his J.D. at William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2010. Those academic years included internships and summer roles that exposed him to litigation and public-interest law.

Hill’s first summer legal position came in 2008 at Becket, then known as The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. He returned to summer work in 2009 at Greehan, Taves, Pandak & Stoner, PLLC. Those clerkships offered early experience with case preparation and research in settings that ranged from nonprofit advocacy to private practice. After law school he joined Segan, Mason & Mason, P.C. as an associate in 2010. That role marked his transition into full-time practice.

In 2015 Hill became an associate at McCarthy & Akers, PLC. Over the next five years he handled litigation tasks and client counseling typical of mid-sized firm practice. Records show he moved into partnership at Mata & Hill PLC in 2020. At that firm he now carries the title of partner and shares responsibility for case strategy and client service. The pattern of jobs traces a steady climb through clerkships, associate positions, and finally firm leadership.

Colleagues describe Hill as methodical in case preparation and concise in courtroom presentation. He has experience drafting motions, managing discovery, and preparing witnesses for trial. Those practical skills were developed across multiple firms and through hands-on roles during his summers in law school. He is admitted to practice in Virginia and works regularly in that jurisdiction.

Outside of firm roles, Hill’s background in music and history informs a careful attention to detail and to storytelling in legal documents. He brings that perspective to written submissions and oral argument. He also has worked in both nonprofit and private settings, a mixture that has given him a broad view of how litigation and advocacy operate in different environments.

Today Hill is a partner at Mata & Hill PLC. He practices primarily in Virginia, serving clients through the firm’s offices and focusing his current work on legal matters arising in that jurisdiction.
