About Timothy M.
Timothy M. McLaughlin followed a straightforward path into the law. He earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota–Morris before completing his J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1992. He entered public service soon after finishing law school.
He began his career at the Knox County Public Defenders Office in 1992. There he handled courtroom matters for clients who could not afford private counsel. The work gave him early, hands-on experience with trial procedure, client advocacy and the rhythm of state-court dockets.
In 1995 he moved into private practice as a lawyer with the Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos. That position exposed him to the demands of private firms and to a different side of litigation practice. He spent several years there before taking the next step in his professional life.
Since 2002 McLaughlin has practiced at McLaughlin Legal. He has continued to appear in Tennessee courts over the years. His résumé shows a line of steady practice rather than a series of short stints. He has handled matters from the defense table to files prepared for trial.
He maintains professional ties to the trial bar. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships place him within national and state networks of litigators and suggest ongoing engagement with developments in trial practice, procedure and professional standards.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who learned his craft in courtrooms and carried that experience into private practice. His background in public defense gave him an early grounding in contested hearings and client care under pressure. Later work in private firms added further exposure to the mechanics of civil litigation and case preparation.
Today he practices in Tennessee. He represents clients in state courts and continues to handle litigation and trial matters. His current practice at McLaughlin Legal centers on courtroom representation and litigation in Tennessee state courts.
