About Sanjay

Sanjay Raman completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York College at Oswego, finishing a B.A. in 2016 after beginning in 2013. He moved to Tennessee for law school and enrolled at Lincoln Memorial University’s John J. Duncan, Jr. School of Law in 2017. He received his J.D. in 2020. Those formative years gave him classroom training and a sense of the practical demands of legal work.

After law school, Raman began a mixed path between private practice and firm work. In 2021 he established The Law Office of Sanjay Raman. That same year he also worked as an associate lawyer at LaFevor & Slaughter. The overlapping roles suggest an early effort to balance independent practice with experience inside established shops. In 2022 he moved to Butler, Vines & Babb as an associate lawyer, continuing to build practical experience in a firm setting.

At each stop, Raman took on the kinds of responsibilities typical for early-career attorneys: client intake, legal research, drafting pleadings and agreements, and supporting trial preparation. Working both in his own office and as an associate gave him repeated exposure to client-facing work and the back-room tasks that support it. Colleagues and clients often ask for clear explanations; those interactions shaped how he approaches casework.

Raman’s choice to open a private office so soon after earning his degree reflects a preference for managing client relationships directly. Running a small office required handling administrative duties alongside legal work. That experience offered a different perspective than the associate roles he held at firms, where workflow is distributed across teams and senior attorneys handle higher-level strategy.

The through line in his career is steady engagement with practice in Tennessee. He has alternated between building his own practice and serving on firm teams. Those moves have allowed him to see cases from multiple vantage points: as sole counsel responsible for all aspects of a matter and as a member of a firm where tasks are divided. He applies classroom training from Lincoln Memorial and the practical lessons learned at LaFevor & Slaughter and Butler, Vines & Babb to daily client work.

He now operates The Law Office of Sanjay Raman and practices law in Tennessee.
