About Tim
Tim Lessman has built a public presence in Minnesota’s legal community over the last decade. He has been recognized by peers and the press. In 2021 Minnesota Lawyer named him Lawyer of the Year, an award that marked a high point in his professional visibility. He has also served on the Education Committee of the Minnesota Association for Justice, taking on that role in 2019.
Lessman’s path to practice in Minnesota followed standard legal training and early practice stages. He developed courtroom experience and a professional network that led him to work at established local firms. Over time he moved into positions that involved both trial work and mentoring younger lawyers.
His career includes both advocacy and organizational engagement. Serving on the Minnesota Association for Justice Education Committee placed him in a position to help shape continuing education offerings for trial attorneys. That committee work intersected with his courtroom responsibilities. It added a public-facing element to his practice and put him in regular contact with peers across the state.
In 2021 the legal press singled him out. The Lawyer of the Year distinction from Minnesota Lawyer reflected work that had attracted attention in legal circles. The award does not stand alone. It sits alongside a pattern of involvement in professional groups and in firm-level matters. He has been visible in settings where litigation tactics and trial preparation are discussed.
Lessman is based at Knutson + Casey. At the firm he has combined case work with participation in staff training and external education programs. Colleagues describe him as someone who moves easily between the courtroom and the planning room. He has taken roles that require both litigation judgment and the ability to explain complex issues to juries, clients, and other lawyers.
He continues to practice in Minnesota. His current work at Knutson + Casey includes courtroom litigation and contributions to legal education for other lawyers.
