About Joseph McRea

Joseph McRea Bromeland built his legal foundation at the University of Saint Thomas, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 1998 after earlier study at the University of Minnesota–Morris. He went on to receive his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 2001. Those years provided classroom training and early exposure to the procedural side of the law.

His first professional post came in the state courts. In 2001 he served as a judicial law clerk for the Minnesota Judicial Branch in the 9th Judicial District. The clerkship placed him inside courtroom operations and the drafting of legal opinions. It also offered a vantage point on how judges manage complex dockets and rule on evidentiary and procedural questions.

After the clerkship Bromeland moved into private practice. In 2002 he joined Rajkowski Hansmeier, Ltd. as an associate, where he began representing clients in matters filed in Minnesota courts. He later became a lawyer at Wendland Sellers Bromeland, P.A. in 2007. Those roles expanded his experience in client counseling, case preparation, and courtroom appearances.

Bromeland is admitted to practice in Minnesota and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Those admissions reflect a mix of state-court practice and appellate work. Over the years he has worked on cases that progressed through trial courts and beyond, learning how litigation strategy shifts at different stages of a matter.

Colleagues and past employers describe him as steady and pragmatic in the courtroom. He has moved between public-sector and private practice roles, drawing on each to inform the other. The clerkship sharpened his eye for legal analysis, while years in law firms required attention to deadlines, discovery, and client communication.

He currently practices at Maschka, Riedy & Ries Law Office, handling matters in Minnesota and before the Eighth Circuit.
