About Thomas O.
Thomas O. Deen has practiced law in Texas for several decades. His career moves between private practice and insurance industry work, and it shows a steady orientation toward litigation in state and federal courts. Colleagues describe a lawyer who has built a long track record of courtroom and claims-related work.
He earned a B.S. in Political Science from Emory University in 1973 and graduated from South Texas College of Law with a J.D. in 1980. Those academic years placed him among a generation of Texas lawyers who entered practice as the state’s commercial litigation docket was growing.
Deen’s early professional years included partnership roles at established Texas firms. In 1983 he became a partner at Brown Sims, P.C., and he later joined McFatridge, Baker & Den P.C. as a partner in 2001. Those positions involved managing litigation teams and handling complex civil matters. He moved into the insurance industry in 2007, serving as an executive claims consultant for XL Insurance. That role added an insurer’s perspective to his courtroom experience.
At a later stage he practiced as a sole proprietor under the name Thomas O. Deen – Lawyer. That period allowed him to handle a range of matters directly for clients and to continue appearances in trial and appellate courts. Public records list admissions to the Texas bar, the Supreme Court of Texas, the Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas. Those admissions support work at both the trial and appellate levels.
Office affiliations include Schouest, Bamdas, Soshea & BenMaier, PLLC, where he is associated with other litigators and trial counsel. Over the years his roles have shifted between firm leadership, individual practice and an in-house consultancy role, giving him experience on both sides of insurance disputes.
His practice style is practical and court-oriented. He has regularly handled pleadings, motions, and courtroom hearings in federal and state forums. He also brings familiarity with claims handling and insurer decision-making from his time at XL Insurance. That combination informs how he approaches case strategy and client counseling.
In his current work he concentrates his practice on litigation in Texas state and federal courts, including insurance-related matters.
