About Thomas Carroll
Thomas Carroll Blauvelt has practiced law in New Jersey and New York for more than three decades. He opened his own firm in 1994 and has balanced private practice with municipal court work and federal admissions. His career shows steady movement from clerkships and public service into running a small firm and handling matters in state and federal courts.
He earned a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1992 after completing a B.S. in Finance at Fairfield University in 1987. Those years framed an entry into the New York legal market through summer and early clerkship roles that preceded bar admissions and private practice.
His early legal experience included work as a law clerk at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in 1989 and a stint as a student assistant at the New York County District Lawyer's Office in 1991. After law school he joined Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker as an associate in 1992. Those roles exposed him to litigation and courtroom procedure in larger firm and public settings before he chose to start his own office two years later.
In 1994 he formed the Law Offices of Thomas Carroll Blauvelt, LLC and has operated that practice since then. He has balanced private client matters with municipal court roles. In 2006 he was appointed Municipal Public Defender in the Edison, New Jersey Municipal Court. The following year he served as an assistant municipal prosecutor in the Flemington Municipal Court and held alternate municipal prosecutor responsibilities in 2006 as well. These positions placed him on both sides of municipal prosecutions and defenses in New Jersey courts.
Blauvelt is admitted in New Jersey and New York and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has maintained memberships in a number of professional associations over the years, including the Middlesex County Bar Association beginning in 1994, the New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors Association during the mid-2000s, and earlier memberships with the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Hudson County Bar Association.
He keeps a small firm practice under the banner of the Law Offices of Thomas Carroll Blauvelt, LLC. He handles matters in state and federal trial courts in New Jersey and New York and continues to serve clients through his firm, focusing on litigation in those courts.
