About Shawn M
Shawn M Brothwell grew up curious about how people think. He studied psychology at the University of Scranton, earning a B.S. in 2008. That academic interest in behavior later led him to law school. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2015.
Brothwell’s early career moved between mental-health work and legal training. While completing his undergraduate studies and shortly after, he held roles as therapeutic staff support and mental-health worker at organizations including TriCounty/NHS of Northeastern Pennsylvania, NHS of Northeastern Pennsylvania, NHS of Delaware County, Devereux Foundation, and the Scranton Counseling Center. Those positions placed him in direct care settings and exposed him to the practical pressures of behavioral-health systems.
He began formal legal work during law school. In 2013 he served as a judicial intern at the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. The following year he worked as a research fellow at the Barco Law Library at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and as a law clerk at Dugan & Associates. After receiving his J.D., he served as a judicial law clerk for the Susquehanna County Court of Common Pleas in 2015.
Brothwell entered private practice as an associate lawyer in 2018 at Ciccarelli Law Offices. His path to private practice moved steadily from courtroom observation and legal research into client representation. The mix of courtroom experience and bench-side exposure gave him regular contact with judges, court personnel, and procedural work early in his career.
His background in psychology and his years in mental-health roles inform how he approaches cases that involve behavioral-health issues, competency questions, or family dynamics. He applies that perspective to fact-gathering, witness interviews, and preparing testimony. Colleagues describe him as methodical in building case records and attentive to how medical and psychological records fit into legal disputes.
Brothwell is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and handles matters in offices located in Delaware County, Radnor, and Lancaster as part of Ciccarelli Law Offices. He maintains an active caseload that reflects both his courtroom experience and earlier work in health-related settings.
He currently practices law in Pennsylvania through Ciccarelli Law Offices and concentrates his work on matters that draw on his combined legal and mental-health background.
