Shannon Carey was a personal injury attorney based in Minneapolis, Minnesota — She joined the Minnesota State Bar in 2006. She was a partner at SiebenCarey, a firm located at 901 Marquette Avenue, Suite 500, Minneapolis, MN 55402. Her practice areas included personal injury, medical malpractice, and products liability. She earned her Juris Doctor from William Mitchell College of Law in 2006 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saint Thomas in 1996. She was a fourth-generation attorney, following in the footsteps of her father, John Carey, a nationally recognized medical malpractice attorney, and her great-uncle and uncle, both judges on the Iron Range.
She began her legal career as a clerk at SiebenCarey in 2004 while attending law school and became an associate attorney in 2006. She was promoted to partner in 2015. Throughout her career, she represented individuals and families in complex litigations, including medical malpractice, wrongful death, and catastrophic injury claims. She was recognized by her peers for her leadership in alternative dispute resolution and was a certified Civil Trial Law Specialist by both the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the Minnesota State Bar Association. She was a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the International Society of Barristers, the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100. She was named to the 2012 Rising Stars list published by Super Lawyers magazine, an honor given to outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. She was also selected as one of the "Top Women Attorneys in Minnesota" in 2013. She received Minnesota Lawyer's "Up and Coming Attorneys" award in 2011, recognizing attorneys who have distinguished themselves during their first ten years of practice. She passed away on June 11, 2023, at the age of 47, due to complications following a double lung transplant in March 2022 and scleroderma.
She died at her home in St. Paul, Minnesota, surrounded by loved ones.
