About Sean T.
Sean T. McLaughlin grew up studying people as much as law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2005 and returned there for his Juris Doctor, which he completed in 2008. Those years in Baton Rouge shaped how he approaches legal problems: attentive to context, alert to detail, and willing to test assumptions.
After law school he built a practice that stretches across Louisiana and into the federal courts. McLaughlin is admitted to practice in Louisiana and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. That combination of state and federal credentials informs his courtroom work and his handling of pretrial strategy.
He is a partner at Kean Miller LLP. At the firm he has taken on responsibilities that include managing cases, advising clients on procedural issues, and coordinating filings in multiple jurisdictions. Colleagues describe him as methodical in litigation and careful in planning. He moves between courtrooms and conference rooms, handling the logistical challenges that cases often present.
McLaughlin maintains memberships in the New Orleans Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar and the Federal Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him connected to peers across practice areas and offer channels for staying current on developments in court rules and procedure. He participates in bar events and continuing legal education opportunities relevant to federal and state practice.
His background in sociology shows through in client meetings. He listens for patterns and looks for the facts that will matter under the governing law. That approach guides settlement discussions as much as trial preparation. He pays attention to timing and precedent when deciding how to advance a matter.
Outside of litigation, McLaughlin’s work involves coordinating filings, preparing briefs and advising on federal jurisdictional questions. He handles matters that require interfacing with both state and federal systems. He is based at Kean Miller LLP and carries an active courtroom schedule. He currently practices at Kean Miller LLP, where his work involves litigation in Louisiana courts and in the federal courts to which he is admitted.
