About Scott J.

Scott J. Smith grew up pursuing a clear path to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University in 1996 and took his next step at the University of Idaho College of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1999. Those years set the foundation for a practice built in Idaho state courts and legal institutions.

After law school Smith entered private practice in Idaho. Over time he advanced to a leadership role and is now a partner at Racine Olson. His career has remained anchored in the state where he trained, and he maintains active membership in the Idaho State Bar. That continuity has shaped a practice style grounded in local rules and courtroom expectations.

Colleagues describe Smith as methodical and steady in litigation settings. He spends much of his time preparing cases, drafting pleadings and arguing motions. He also handles negotiations and settlement discussions when those avenues serve clients’ interests. His work encompasses pretrial strategy as well as courtroom presentation.

Clients come to Smith for reasoned counsel and practical planning. He evaluates risk and outlines options in clear terms. He works with individuals and organizations, guiding them through procedural milestones and scheduling demands. He is often involved in discovery oversight and the coordination of expert testimony when cases require specialized input.

At Racine Olson Smith shares responsibility for case management and mentoring associate attorneys. He participates in firm decision-making and client intake. Within the office he contributes to trial preparation and appellate briefing when matters move beyond the trial court.

Smith has kept his professional life focused on the Idaho legal community. He takes part in the Idaho State Bar and attends continuing legal education seminars to keep current on developments in state law. He tends to avoid publicity and lets his courtroom work speak for itself.

Outside the office Smith’s professional interests have centered on sharpening trial skills and working collaboratively with other attorneys in complex matters. He remains based at Racine Olson and continues to represent clients in Idaho courts. His current practice focuses on litigation and courtroom representation for individuals and businesses in Idaho.
