Before and during law school Toone built a mix of public-sector, corporate and academic experience. He was an HR manager at Utah State University in 2015, a role that put him into everyday personnel and policy matters. He worked in the civil division at the Salt Lake County District Lawyer’s Office in 2018. In 2019 he joined Goldman Sachs as a financial crime compliance analyst, where he dealt with regulatory screening and transaction monitoring.
While in law school he served as a legal intern for the U.S. District Courts for the District of Idaho in 2021. That clerkship exposed him to federal civil procedure and courtroom processes. After earning his law degree he joined Beard St. Clair Gaffney PA as an associate in 2022, bringing together his compliance background and courtroom experience.
The thread through Toone’s career is practical problem solving across different settings. In the public sector he handled civil matters and learned how government lawyers prepare cases and pleadings. In finance he worked on risk controls and compliance processes. His HR training and data analytics work inform how he approaches facts and documents. Together those roles shape how he analyzes legal issues and prepares evidence.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in research and careful in drafting. He has worked on case intake, legal research, drafting motions and supporting discovery efforts. His compliance work at a major bank also gave him exposure to regulatory reporting and internal policy reviews.
Toone is a member of the Idaho State Bar, admitted in 2023, and he practices in Idaho.
