About Sarah J
Sarah J Schmidt began her legal path in a courthouse, where she spent a year observing judges and the rhythm of courtroom routines. She served as a law clerk in 2016 for the Second Judicial Circuit of Virginia. That early experience gave her a working knowledge of how cases move from filing to decision, and how judges evaluate evidence and argument.
After her clerkship she turned to practice and professional involvement. Since 2016 she has held membership in the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Beach Bar Association. Those memberships reflect steady participation in the state’s legal community over the past decade. In 2018 she took on a leadership role in a bar-related organization and remains active there.
Her service extends to the Virginia Women Lawyers Association’s Hampton Roads Chapter, where she has served as treasurer since 2018. In that role she has handled the chapter’s financial administration, worked with other officers to set budgets and supported programming aimed at helping local lawyers connect. The post has kept her engaged with colleagues across practice areas and generations of practitioners.
Her early judicial work and bar activity inform how she approaches matters at her current office. She has worked inside the court system and then in private practice, so she understands both procedural expectations and the practical concerns clients bring. Colleagues describe her as someone who pays attention to procedural detail and who prepares filings with an eye toward how a judge will read them.
Outside formal roles she participates in continuing education and local bar events. Those activities keep her current on changes in state law and procedure and provide opportunities to mentor newer lawyers. She has remained in the Virginia legal scene continuously since her clerkship year, balancing practice duties with voluntary bar service.
She is currently a lawyer at REAVESCOLEY, PLLC, where she works on matters for the firm’s clients and remains active in local legal organizations. Her present practice focuses on serving clients through the firm’s work and on continuing involvement in professional civic activities.
