About Sarah

Sarah Arnott built her legal foundation at Peace College, graduating in 1999, and earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2007. She entered practice shortly thereafter and has spent her career in California courts and family law settings. Her early academic and practical training set the stage for work that later centered on family-related legal services.

Her career took a variety of turns in the first decade after law school. In 2005 she worked as a legal auditor for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. She handled pro bono matters for the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights in 2006. In 2008 she was a lawyer at CORA — Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse, where she took on cases tied to domestic violence and support services. The next year she served as a bilingual staff lawyer at the Family & Children's Law Center, a role that involved direct client intake and courtroom appearances for clients who needed language access.

From 2011 through 2014 she moved through several family law practices. She was a lawyer at the Moreno Family Law Office in 2011 and at Heath-Newton LLP in 2012. In 2014 she joined Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP and remains affiliated with that firm. Along the way she handled a range of family law matters in both counsel and advocacy roles, moving between nonprofit and private-practice environments.

Arnott holds certification as a Family Law Specialist from the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. That credential is paired with active membership in the State Bar of California’s Family Law Section. She has also been involved in the San Francisco Bar Association’s Barristers Club, serving as chairperson of its Family Law Section since 2013. Those responsibilities have included organizing section events and engaging other attorneys on practice and procedural issues in family law.

Colleagues describe Arnott’s practice as grounded in courtroom experience and client-facing work. Her bilingual background informed her time at the Family & Children's Law Center and continues to influence how she manages files and communicates with clients. She has moved between nonprofit advocacy and private practice, which has given her exposure to different client needs and institutional settings.

She is admitted to practice in California and currently works at Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP. Her current practice focuses on family law and related domestic relations matters, including custody and support issues.
