About S. Derek

S. Derek Gage earned his law degree at Emory University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2003. He attended Emory beginning in 2000, completing the three-year program that prepared him for practice in Georgia. The classroom and courtroom training at Emory shaped his early approach to litigation and client counseling.

After law school, Gage built his career in Georgia. He moved into private practice and rose to a leadership role. Today he serves as managing partner of The Gage Law Office, LLC. In that role he oversees case strategy, client intake and the day-to-day operations of a small firm. His work has kept him rooted in the state’s legal community.

Gage’s professional affiliations reflect interests outside pure practice. He holds membership in the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), a group that brings together people affected by mental health issues and professionals who work with them. He is also a member of the Stonewall Bar Association, an organization that provides community and professional resources for LGBTQ+ legal professionals. Those memberships inform how he thinks about client needs and access to services.

Colleagues and clients describe Gage as methodical and pragmatic. He prefers clear explanations over legalese. He is comfortable in negotiation and in court. Over the years he has handled a range of matters that require both transactional work and litigation skills. He manages files personally and delegates when the case requires specialized support. The combination of courtroom experience and office leadership shapes how his firm allocates resources and prepares for hearings.

Outside of immediate casework, Gage invests time in developing office systems and mentoring younger attorneys in his firm. He emphasizes practical preparation: knowing deadlines, communicating expectations, and documenting client decisions. That approach is consistent whether the matter is a contested hearing or a routine client counseling session.

Today, as managing partner of The Gage Law Office, LLC, S. Derek Gage continues to practice in Georgia, balancing litigation and client advisory work while maintaining memberships in NAMI and the Stonewall Bar Association. His current practice focuses on serving clients in matters brought in Georgia courts and related legal needs.
