About Ryan
Ryan Osterholm grew up academically focused and took a conventional path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2003 and completed his J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School in 2009. Those years set the technical and analytical foundation he uses in courtroom work and case development.
Licensed to practice in Minnesota, Osterholm moved into litigation after law school and built a practice that centers on harm caused by defective products and contaminated food. He represents individuals and families seeking accountability for injuries. He has worked cases that involve complex scientific and regulatory questions. Those matters often require assembling medical and technical experts and distilling their findings for judges and juries.
Osterholm maintains active memberships in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. Those groups provide continuing education and a forum for trial lawyers to discuss developments in evidence, procedure, and state and federal regulatory trends.
Colleagues describe his courtroom manner as direct. He prepares evidence carefully and expects expert witnesses to be ready for detailed cross-examination. In negotiations, he presses for full documentation of harm and for accounting of long-term costs. When settlement is not appropriate, he will take a case to trial. His litigation work has required coordinating depositions, managing complex discovery, and arguing motions in state court.
Food safety cases often cut across multiple disciplines. Osterholm’s files commonly include testing data, recall notices, corporate communications and regulatory reports. He spends substantial time analyzing that material and consulting with scientists and public health professionals. That work is aimed at establishing how contamination occurred and who bore responsibility for preventing it.
He practices at OFT Food Safety & Injury Lawyers. There he handles consumer claims tied to contaminated food and other injury matters in Minnesota courts. His caseload combines courtroom work and pretrial investigation. He currently concentrates his practice on food safety and injury litigation.
