About Ryan Finsrud
Ryan Finsrud Howell built his academic foundation around law and business. He earned a B.A. in International Politics from Brigham Young University, then returned to Denver for both an MBA and a J.D. at the University of Denver. The combination of political studies and graduate business and legal training set the stage for a career that crosses corporate and legal lines.
Howell moved into the private sector early. In 2005 he served as in-house counsel for a private equity firm, a role that exposed him to transactions, portfolio company oversight and deal negotiations. Two years later he founded Rubicon Law, launching a private practice that would carry his name for nearly two decades. He has maintained ties to academia, serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business in 2011 and later at the Sturm College of Law in 2018.
He was admitted to the Colorado bar in 2006 and maintains membership in the Colorado State Bar. His career path blends corporate legal work and business instruction. That mix has informed how he approaches client matters and classroom discussions alike. Colleagues and students saw someone comfortable switching between boardroom issues and legal analysis.
Over time Howell has handled matters that reflect his cross-disciplinary training. His work history includes private equity side legal counsel and the establishment of a firm that advises on commercial and transactional concerns. That background gives him practical perspective on governance, contracts, and the business considerations that often shape legal strategy. He has balanced practice management with occasional teaching responsibilities, moving between advising clients and explaining complex topics to business and law students.
Today he practices through Rubicon Law Group, Ltd. in Colorado. His office continues to serve business clients, and he handles matters that stem from private equity and commercial activity. He currently focuses his practice on business and private equity-related legal matters.
