About Robert O.

Robert O. Chessman built his legal foundation at Harvard and the University of Michigan. He earned a B.A. from Harvard University in 1968 and completed his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School in 1974. Those schools set the stage for a long practice in Michigan law.

He began practicing law in the mid-1970s and has remained active in the Michigan bar ever since. Over the years he has taken on courtroom work, client counsel, and the routine tasks that keep a law practice running. That steady involvement in daily practice has kept him connected to local legal needs and to the institutions that support them.

Chessman is a lawyer at McCroskey Law. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and is a member of both the Michigan State Bar Association and the Michigan Association for Justice. At the county level he has been more than a participant; he served as president of the Muskegon County Bar Association. That role placed him in contact with judges, fellow attorneys and community leaders, and it remains a prominent part of his professional record.

Colleagues describe his approach as methodical. He tends to favor clear preparation and pragmatic planning over flash. In practice that means careful review of facts, attention to procedural detail, and a preference for resolving issues through clear legal argument. Those habits have marked his work for decades and have informed his involvement in bar activities.

Outside of his casework he has kept a steady presence in professional groups. His memberships in statewide and local bar organizations reflect an ongoing engagement with legal education, rules developments and the governance of local practice. Serving in a leadership post at the Muskegon County Bar Association gave him hands-on experience with the administrative side of the profession.

Today he continues to work at McCroskey Law in Michigan. He handles matters for clients in the state and remains involved in the bar associations that have framed much of his career. He currently practices at McCroskey Law, focusing on legal matters in Michigan courts.
