About John N.
John N. Kelsey earned his J.D. from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1985. He built a career rooted in the Midwest and has practiced across two neighboring states. The degree marked the start of a steady legal path that extends into the present.
Soon after law school he established licensure in both Indiana and Michigan. Over the years he has worked in a variety of legal settings, appearing in state courts and participating in administrative proceedings. He has represented individual clients and organizations, moving between courtroom work and transactional matters as circumstances required.
Kelsey’s approach to cases has been practical. He prefers clear lines of communication and setting realistic expectations. That approach shaped long-term client relationships and daily practice routines. Colleagues describe him as methodical and reliable in handling procedural and substantive questions.
Across decades of practice he has managed filings, hearings and negotiations. He has also invested time in continuing legal education to stay current on changing rules and case law. That ongoing study has informed his judgment on procedural strategy and client counseling.
He has maintained ties to the legal community in both states. Those connections include participation in bar activities and local legal events. He has used those forums to exchange ideas with peers and to follow developments affecting state practice.
Kelsey’s work spans both litigation and advisory roles. He has prepared pleadings, taken testimony, negotiated settlements and drafted contracts and agreements when required. He adapts his role to what each client’s matter demands, moving from detailed case preparation to broad strategic planning as needed.
Outside of casework he has focused on mentoring younger lawyers and helping them understand courtroom preparation and client management. His experience has made him a resource within his professional circles for procedural questions and practical problem solving.
As of 2026 he continues to practice law in Indiana and Michigan. He maintains an active practice serving clients across both states and handling matters that arise under each state’s laws.
