About Robert H.
Robert H. Ambrose began his path toward criminal law with an undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Indiana University, completed in 2003. He earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 2009. Those two stops on his academic journey shaped a practice that blends courtroom experience, classroom work and appellate exposure.
After law school he built practical experience in public defense. In 2008 he served as a law clerk at the Ramsey County Public Defender's Office. Early in his post‑bar career he worked as an associate at Kans Law Office, LLC in 2011. He then opened Ambrose Law Office, PLLC in 2015 and has led that practice since. His admissions include the Minnesota bar and the Eighth Circuit, allowing him to handle both state and federal matters.
Ambrose has moved between practice and teaching. He judged moot court at the University of Minnesota Law School in 2011 and returned to legal education as an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law in 2012. Later, in 2019, he served as an adjunct at the University of Minnesota Law School. Those roles kept him engaged with trial technique and appellate argument, and they connected him with successive cohorts of law students.
Professional memberships occupy a steady place in his calendar. He holds current memberships in the Federal Bar Association, the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Hennepin County Bar Association, the Washington County Bar Association and the National College of DUI/DWI Defense. Those affiliations reflect the kinds of matters he handles in practice and provide forums for continuing legal education and peer review.
On the substantive side, Ambrose’s background includes public defense work and private criminal defense. His practice has involved cases in state courts across Minnesota and filings in the Eighth Circuit. He has taken on impaired driving cases and other criminal charges, and he brings courtroom experience from both trial and motion practice to those matters. His teaching and moot court work inform how he prepares testimony and frames legal arguments.
He opened Ambrose Law Office, PLLC in 2015 and continues to run the firm. He balances client representation, courtroom appearances and occasional classroom work. He practices criminal defense and handles DUI/DWI matters in Minnesota and the Eighth Circuit.
