About Richard
Richard Hartsock built a path from political science into law. He earned a B.S. in Political Science from Western Kentucky University, then completed his J.D. at Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. Those years shaped his approach: methodical, practical and attentive to details.
He moved into practice in 2017, joining Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers. Early assignments placed him on cases that required both courtroom work and close client contact. He has been licensed to practice in Kentucky and Tennessee and has handled matters arising in both jurisdictions.
Hartsock’s work has centered on personal injury litigation. He is comfortable in depositions and hearings, and he has spent significant time preparing cases for trial. He approaches each file by breaking down complex facts into clear issues. That habit helps at mediation and in settlement talks as well as in court.
Within the firm, Hartsock has worked across multiple offices. That experience exposed him to varied caseloads and regional differences in practice. It also gave him experience coordinating with colleagues on evidence, expert witnesses and trial strategy. He is a regular participant in firm case meetings and contributes to case development and discovery planning.
Outside his day-to-day casework, Hartsock maintains memberships in professional associations. He uses those connections to stay current on changes in tort law and procedural rules that affect injury claims. He also participates in continuing legal education offered through bar programs and local seminars.
Colleagues describe him as practical and straightforward in court and at the negotiating table. He tends to favor clear explanations over legalese when speaking with clients. That approach shapes how he prepares witnesses and frames cases for juries.
Over time Hartsock has managed cases from initial intake through appeals where necessary. He balances investigative work, drafting pleadings and managing discovery with the time needed for client communication. The result is a steady practice that handles the full lifecycle of injury litigation.
He continues to practice at Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers, where he concentrates his practice on personal injury cases.
