About Richard D.
Richard D. Greer trained as a lawyer at Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, earning his law degree in the late 1970s. He spent a summer term at the University of Exeter Law School in England in 1977 studying international and comparative law. Before law school he completed a Bachelor of Arts at Vanderbilt University, where he studied economics and took coursework in political science.
He began practicing law soon after graduation. His early years were spent as an associate at the Law Offices of Eason Mitchell, which later became Mitchell, Green, Pino & Greer. In 1981 he joined Najjar Denaburg, P.C., and its predecessors as an associate and later as a shareholder. Those roles covered a range of civil matters and provided courtroom and transactional experience that shaped his approach to client work.
In 1995 Greer opened his own firm, operating as the Law Offices of Richard Greer and later as The Greer Law Office, P.C. Running his own practice gave him responsibility for case strategy, client relations and firm management. He handled cases from intake through trial, and his office has served clients in state and federal courts.
Greer is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the State of Alabama. He has been a member of the Alabama State Bar since 1978. He is active in the Birmingham Bar Association, where he has served as chair and participated on several committees since joining in 1981. He also belongs to the American Bar Association and was a member of the Shelby County Bar Association earlier in his career.
His work has included litigation and appellate practice. He has represented clients in state trial courts and at the appellate level, including the federal appellate court. Over the decades he handled business disputes, civil litigation and other contested matters that required courtroom advocacy and written briefs.
Colleagues describe Greer as steady in the courtroom and attentive to legal details. He has balanced casework with the administrative duties of running a small firm. He continues to practice from The Greer Law Office, P.C., and maintains active bar memberships. His current practice focuses on litigation and appellate representation.
